2008: GOALKEEPER JAILED FOR SEX VIDEO BLACKMAIL
A goalkeeper who previously attended trials with Bolton Wanderers has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for attempting to blackmail a prominent Premier League football player over an explicit video.Ashley Timms, aged 22 and from Middleton, demanded a sum of £15,000 from the unnamed player due to legal restrictions.
He issued threats to release the sex tape unless he received the money.
The video featured a woman and the footballer engaged in sexual activity at his residence.
Timms admitted guilt last month and was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court for issuing unwarranted demands accompanied by menaces.
Judge Andrew Gilbart stated: “Blackmail invariably warrants a custodial sentence.
The exploitation of your friendship driven by greed is a significant aggravating factor.
Your actions were a calculated attempt to obtain money for personal gain.
It is disheartening that in a society that espouses sexual liberation, some popular publications continue to pretend moral outrage when, in reality, their interest lies in profiting from their audience’s fascination with sex and gossip.”
