ASHLEY CORNER FROM MIDDLESBROUGH BANNED FROM OWNING ANIMALS AFTER CRUELTY CASE INVOLVING DOGS

In a recent case that has shocked the local community of Middlesbrough, Ashley Lauren Corner, born in November 1985 and residing on Park Avenue, Marton, was found guilty of neglecting her two dogs, leading to significant animal suffering.

The incident, which took place between September 1 and 29, 2019, involved Corner’s neglectful treatment of her pets, which ultimately resulted in her being held accountable by the authorities.

Corner, a single mother of three boys and known for her involvement in backyard breeding, faced charges after RSPCA officers responded to reports concerning the welfare of her dogs.

The officers arrived at her residence to find a distressing scene: her two West Highland terriers, named Harvey and Woody, were in a deplorable state.

The animals’ fur was heavily matted, and their paws were caked with feces, indicating a severe lack of proper care and hygiene.

According to Stuart Haywood, who prosecuted on behalf of the RSPCA, the officers initially encountered resistance from Corner, who refused to grant them entry into her home.

However, after persistent efforts, the officers managed to gain access.

Inside, they were met with a strong smell of urine and feces permeating the environment.

The dogs were found to be covered in fleas, with one of them’s paws visibly stained with fecal matter.

Both animals emitted a strong odor, further highlighting the neglect they had endured.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Corner had signed over one of her dogs to the RSPCA, but she refused to do the same with the other.

She admitted to failing to investigate and address the underlying causes of her dogs’ poor condition, which contributed to their suffering.

Her attitude during the case was described as unremorseful, with reports indicating she laughed outside the courtroom.

As a result of her actions, Corner was sentenced to a 12-month community order, which includes 12 days of rehabilitation activities.

Additionally, she was ordered to pay £200 in costs, a sum that will be deducted from her Universal Credit payments.

Most notably, she received a five-year ban from owning or keeping animals, a restriction that will expire in September 2025.

This case underscores the importance of animal welfare and the consequences faced by those who neglect their pets in Middlesbrough and beyond.
