BANBURY PAEDOPHILE ARRON LYONS SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN OXFORD
In November 2018, a serious case involving a resident of Banbury, Arron Lyons, came to a conclusion at Oxford Crown Court, where he was sentenced for multiple child sex offences.Lyons, aged 33 and residing on Forgeway in Banbury, was found guilty of a series of disturbing crimes related to the exploitation and abuse of a young boy.
The court proceedings revealed a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned over a period of time, culminating in a comprehensive sentencing that reflects the severity of his actions.
Lyons pleaded guilty to five separate charges, which included causing the sexual exploitation of a child, enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity, and making indecent photographs of a child.
The court sentenced him to a total of four years in prison, with the sentences for each offence to run consecutively, ensuring he would serve the full term without parole.
Specifically, Lyons received a two-year sentence for causing sexual exploitation, a one-year sentence for enticing a child to engage in sexual acts, and three additional one-year sentences for creating indecent images of children.
Prior to the sentencing, Lyons had initially denied the allegations but changed his plea midway through his trial.
During the proceedings, he admitted to the charges of causing sexual exploitation, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and producing indecent images.
The prosecution had also intended to pursue an additional charge related to causing the production of child sexual abuse images, but this was dropped following Lyons' guilty plea.
The case gained further attention when it was revealed that Lyons had engaged with a 12-year-old boy via social media platform Snapchat.
The court heard that Lyons befriended the young boy at a BMX park in Banbury, where he had also lent him money on multiple occasions to buy food and alcohol.
Over time, Lyons began offering money in exchange for sexually explicit photographs sent through Snapchat.
The court was shown text messages in which the boy expressed feelings of despair, including a message stating, “I wanted to kill myself,” indicating the emotional toll of the abuse.
Authorities arrested Lyons in April 2016, during which they discovered hundreds of indecent images and videos of children on his phone and laptop, including those sent by the young victim.
The evidence presented in court painted a disturbing picture of Lyons’ predatory behavior and the exploitation of the young boy.
Lyons was remanded into custody immediately following his arrest and is scheduled to be sentenced via video link at Oxford Crown Court next week.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from online predators.
