CLECKHEATON MAN HANDED COMMUNITY ORDER AFTER KNIFE ASSAULT ON EX-PARTNER
A man named Arnis Vetra was involved in a violent incident outside a home on St Peg Lane in Cleckheaton.
Witnessed by an off-duty police officer, Vetra was seen wielding a kitchen knife in each hand and striking a heavy blow to the female's face during a confrontation.
The victim, his ex-partner, was verbally insulted by Vetra, who called her 'a slag'.
The police officer saw him throw the knives down and walk away from the scene.
Earlier, Vetra had gone into an upstairs bedroom and broke a wardrobe door in half.
The incident occurred after Vetra suspected his ex-partner was seeing someone else behind his back, which upset him significantly.
On the day of the assault, he confronted her in an argument, leading to the violent attack with knives.
Vetra pleaded guilty to possessing bladed articles in public, assault causing bodily harm, and criminal damage.
Magistrates sentenced him to a 12-month community order instead of prison, including 150 hours of unpaid work and 15 rehabilitation days.
The knives used in the attack were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed, and he was also ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge.
