2013: FORMER SPECIAL IS JAILED FOR 12 YEARS
A 59-YEAR-old former special constable has been jailed for 12 years for a string of sex offences against children dating back to 1983.Antony Curtis, formerly of Kings Road, Evesham, was found guilty on May 2 of 19 charges of indecency and indecent assaults involving three girls and two boys between the ages of six and 15.
The offences took place between 1983 and 1989 and between 1995 and 1998.
Paul Whitfield, prosecuting, told Worcester Crown Court that three of the victims had made personal impact statements which said they were still suffering from the effects.
One of them had suffered depression and had sought psychiatric treatment.
During this, she was encouraged to go to the police and the offences came to light.
Another said she had problems trusting men and felt “dirty” about what happened.
Christopher Gair, defending, said Curtis had been in the Army and had also been a volunteer special constable.
Curtis, now of Ash Road, Marlock, Somerset, had serious health problems including post traumatic stress disorder and took a variety of medications daily, Mr Gair said.
Judge Robert Juckes, QC, said he was satisfied Curtis was no longer a danger to children.
He said the offences would have an effect on at least one of the victims for the rest of her life.
Curtis was ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely.
