PEMBROKESHIRE MAN JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE OF MOTHER AND DAUGHTER
A man from Haverfordwest, 43-year-old Anthony Williams of Hill Street, has received a 16-year prison sentence after attempting a violent assault against a mother and her young child on a cycle path near Haverfordwest. The incident occurred during daylight hours on May 17th, when Williams threatened and intimidated the woman, demanding she undress and warning her that her children would be harmed if she refused.
He explicitly stated he would throw one of her children into the river close by if she failed to comply.
During his court appearance, Williams admitted to attempted rape.
Swansea Crown Court justice Geraint Walters described the attack as “unspeakably bad,” stating that only an extended sentence could protect the community from such a perilous offender.
Williams’s sentence totals 24 years—16 years in prison followed by an eight-year license period—and includes an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
He will also remain a registered sex offender for life.
The court noted that Williams had issues with alcohol, having spent between £300 and £400 on drinks a few days before the attack.
The victim’s mother spoke of the lasting emotional damage, saying the experience would “haunt” her forever and that “heart-breaking doesn’t even begin to cover it.” Crown Prosecutor Michael Jenkin called the crime “truly despicable” and emphasized the fear experienced by the victims.
Support from Dyfed Powys Police was expressed by Detective Chief Inspector Cameron Ritchie, who described the assault as “horrific,” and appreciated the bravery of the victims and the public’s help during the investigation.
Ritchie reaffirmed police commitment to safeguarding victims and delivering justice, making it clear that violence against women and children will be strongly condemned.
