ANTHONY WALKER CONVICTED OF PREDATORY SEXUAL OFFENCES IN FALKIRK AND LIVINGSTON

Anthony Walker, aged 61, has been found guilty of a series of serious sexual offences committed over a span of nearly a decade, involving five young girls between the years 1998 and 2007. The conviction was secured after a lengthy legal process that revealed disturbing details about his predatory behavior and the profound impact it had on his victims.

Walker’s crimes included the rape of one child and a pattern of lewd, inappropriate conduct directed at all five victims. The young girls, some as young as six years old at the start of the abuse and others up to 13, endured a range of heinous acts. These acts included being forced to watch pornographic material, experiencing indecent touching, and having Walker enter their bedrooms when they were in states of undress. He also exposed himself and performed sex acts in front of them, further violating their innocence and trust.

In an attempt to evade justice, Walker fled the United Kingdom and traveled to Bulgaria. His escape was eventually thwarted when he was extradited back to the UK to face the charges. The legal proceedings culminated in 2020, when he was formally charged and subsequently tried at the High Court in Stirling. The court found him guilty, and he was sentenced to a term of 12 years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, a measure designed to monitor his activities and prevent further harm.

The presiding judge described Walker’s actions as “appalling predatory sexual behaviour,” emphasizing the severe and lasting trauma inflicted upon his victims. The judge also acknowledged the bravery of the victims, who came forward despite the shame and fear associated with their experiences. Walker, however, continues to deny any wrongdoing, maintaining his innocence despite the compelling evidence and the jury’s verdict.

Scotland’s procurator fiscal highlighted that Walker exploited the trust placed in him over many years, preying on vulnerable young girls. Law enforcement officials expressed their hope that the sentence will serve as a form of justice and provide some measure of comfort to the victims. The police reiterated their commitment to holding offenders accountable and ensuring that justice is served.

During the sentencing at the High Court in Livingston, Judge Craig addressed Walker directly, stating that he had been found guilty of multiple charges, including rape and sexual abuse of one child, as well as offences against four other children. The judge detailed the gravity of the crimes, noting that Walker’s abuse spanned from when the victims were as young as six up to their mid-teens. The judge also pointed out that two victims had attempted to alert authorities during the period of abuse, but charges were not brought until 2020 when another victim came forward.

Judge Craig described Walker’s repeated grooming and sexual exploitation over nine years, emphasizing the breach of trust involved. The judge highlighted that Walker’s access to the victims was facilitated by their young age and inability to resist or report the abuse at the time. Despite denials, the evidence presented at trial was overwhelming, and the victims’ statements underscored the lasting damage caused.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Craig noted that Walker’s actions had profoundly affected the lives of his victims, who showed remarkable courage in coming forward. The court’s social work report assessed Walker as being at low to moderate risk of re-offending, but the judge underscored that the severity of his crimes warranted a substantial custodial sentence. Walker’s continued denial and lack of remorse were also taken into account.

Ultimately, the judge imposed a cumulative sentence of 12 years, backdated to August 25, 2023, when Walker was first remanded in custody after being extradited from Bulgaria. The sentence was structured to reflect the nature of each individual offence, with concurrent four-year sentences for the lewd and libidinous practices and an eight-year consecutive sentence for the multiple rapes of a child. Walker will remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and is now listed among those deemed unsuitable to work with vulnerable groups, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
