A pensioner who sexually assaulted a child has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Anthony Horrobin, 72, of Wolsey Road, Newark, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday.
He was told that on release he must sign the sex offenders’ register and can never work with children.
He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to sexually touching a child under the age of 13 and inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual engagement.
The offences came to light in August when the victim was overheard having a conversation with someone about a sex act.
The prosecutor, Sarah Munro, said the victim’s parents were alerted and asked the child where they had heard about such things.
Felicity Campbell, defending, said 20 years ago Horrobin suffered a bereavement that had a big impact on his life.
He then spent time in a psychiatric unit at King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield.
Miss Campbell said: “He is 72 years of age, with no previous convictions and when he was a young man he served in the Army for 12 years.”
