ANTHONY HOLLISTER FROM PONTYPOOL JAILED FOR SEX WITH 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN SWANSEA

In a case that has shocked the community of Pontypool and the surrounding areas, Anthony Hollister, aged 30, was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to engaging in sexual activities with a teenage girl he had groomed over the internet. The incident, which took place in December, has raised serious concerns about online safety and the exploitation of minors.

Hollister, who resides on High Street in Pontypool, appeared before Swansea Crown Court to face charges related to his inappropriate conduct. The court heard that he had met the girl, a Swansea resident, through online communication in January 2009. During their initial interactions, Hollister was told that the girl was 17 years old, and he admitted to being in his twenties. This misinformation was part of the grooming process that led to their eventual meeting.

According to the prosecution, Kevin Riordan, Hollister’s contact, detailed that the girl’s mother had contacted Hollister in May to warn him that her daughter was only 15 and that no further contact should occur. Despite this warning, Hollister and the girl arranged to meet again a few weeks later in Cwmbran. Their meeting culminated in a private booking at the Premier Inn, where Hollister engaged in sexual activity with the girl on December 9.

The incident was brought to public attention when her worried parents reported her missing at midnight. A police officer subsequently contacted Hollister via his mobile phone. Initially, Hollister denied being with the teenager, but within two hours, both he and the girl appeared at Pontypool police station. During the interview, it became evident that the girl was “very attached and close to the defendant,” as noted by the prosecutor.

Defense lawyer Robert Du Val argued that Hollister’s actions were compounded by the fact that the girl had initially sent him a photograph consistent with her claiming to be 17. He emphasized that once Hollister discovered her true age in May, the responsible course of action would have been to cease all contact. Instead, he continued to communicate with her in a manner that was described as “hugely irresponsible.”

In sentencing, Mr. Justice Lloyd Jones highlighted that the grooming process had extended over several months, with a significant age gap between Hollister and the girl. The judge underscored that Hollister had been fully aware that the girl was only 15 at the time of their sexual encounter, making his actions particularly egregious. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which such offenses are regarded, especially when involving minors and online grooming tactics.
