MAN FINED AFTER ADMITTING STALKING CHARGE
Anthony Green, aged 58, has admitted causing his former partner distress and alarm through a series of unsettling actions, which included repeatedly driving past her home and leaving a gift on her car.The court was told that Green, of West Road, Irvine, had been in a relationship with the woman for 16 years.
He pleaded guilty to persistently passing her residence in Irvine—behaviour that was captured on CCTV the woman had installed—as well as loitering near an industrial estate.
These incidents occurred between 9 December 2019 and 18 January this year.
The court heard that after her car was taken for a valet, the woman returned to discover a bag containing a gift box, accompanied by a card inscribed with the message: “Old habits die hard.” Defence solicitor Sandy Currie confirmed there was no opposition to the imposition of a non-harassment order, although he emphasised that Green's actions were not driven by malicious intent.
Referring to the conduct as a case of “unrequited love,” Mr Currie said: “If there is a lesson to be learned, he has learned it.” Sheriff Shirley Foran imposed a fine of £400 and issued a two-year non-harassment order, instructing Green to refrain from any contact with his ex-partner.
