DOG HAD TO BE PUT DOWN AFTER GREENOCK OWNER FAILED TO GET HELP FOR EIGHT WEEKS
A 39-year-old woman, Anne Marie Lever of Belville Street, Greenock, pleaded guilty to causing her dog Switch unnecessary suffering by failing to provide adequate care and veterinary treatment.
The dog was found to be extremely thin, with bones protruding, and had a large tumour measuring 12 inches in diameter and weighing 1.5 kilos, along with severe ear infections, dental disease, and ulcerated skin.
Lever acknowledged she had no money for treatment and waited nearly eight weeks before calling the Scottish SPCA.
The court heard that she stood by as the dog deteriorated, and she allowed the animal to suffer until she was euthanised by a vet.
Sheriff Daniel Kelly deferred sentence for a background report and an electronic tagging assessment.
The Scottish SPCA welcomed the guilty plea, with the case due to call again on November 14.
