ANDREW WILKINS ARRESTED IN BILLINGHAM OVER CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN FRONT OF PARENTS
In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Billingham, Andrew Wilkins, a 43-year-old man, was apprehended in front of his own parents at their family residence after authorities uncovered evidence of his possession of child abuse images.The arrest took place amidst an ongoing investigation by the National Crime Agency, which was focused on individuals involved in downloading and sharing indecent images of minors.
On October 19, 2015, Cleveland Police officers executed a search warrant at Wilkins' family home.
During the raid, Wilkins was present along with his mother and father.
As part of the operation, he was asked to provide access to his email account, which he did willingly.
Subsequently, his personal computer tower was seized by authorities for forensic examination.
The case was brought before Teesside Crown Court, where prosecutor Rachel Masters detailed the findings.
It was revealed that Wilkins possessed a significant collection of indecent images, with the most serious category, Category A, totaling 36 images.
Additionally, he had 69 images classified as Category B and 217 images falling under Category C.
These categories indicate the severity and explicit nature of the content involved.
Throughout the proceedings, Wilkins, who had no prior criminal record, remained silent and did not respond to any questions posed by the court.
His lawyer described him as a 'lonely figure' and an isolated individual, which may have contributed to his actions.
In sentencing, Wilkins received an eight-month jail term, which was suspended for two years.
As part of his rehabilitation, he was ordered to complete 35 days of supervised programs.
Furthermore, he was subject to a seven-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order, restricting his access to the internet and related devices.
Additionally, he was mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years.
Wilkins pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images of a child, with the offenses spanning from October 2010 to October 2015.
