MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO RAPE THREAT MADE IN WEMYSS BAY
A FATHER-OF-FIVE told a terrified teenager that he was going to rape her mother, ‘slit your throat and eat your eyeball’ over claims of bullying. The 44-year-old Andrew Hurst sent a series of horrific messages threatening to ‘stab your mum and kill you too’.
He made the threats at Wemyss Bay Holiday Park.
Hurst handed himself in to police after sending the messages and told officers he was ‘ashamed’ of his behaviour.
He pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, repeatedly shouting, swearing, and acting aggressively towards a 16-year-old on April 24 this year, and also admitted uttering threats of violence towards her and her family, including threats of sexual violence towards her mother.
The court heard that Hurst’s behaviour was in response to alleged bullying of a child he knew, and Sheriff Varney emphasized the seriousness of the offence due to his age, stating his behaviour was worse than that of the bullies.
Sentence was deferred until January 21 for background reports; Hurst, of Gourlay Street in Glasgow, had his bail continued until then.
