HEROIN ADDICT JAILED FOR CAUSING PARTNER'S DEATH WITH DRUG INJECTION
A heroin addict who caused the death of his partner by injecting her with heroin has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison.Andrew Dean Williams, aged 48, was convicted of manslaughter and administering a noxious substance after he gave Samantha Archer, 43, heroin at her home in Hartlepool on February 10 of the previous year.
Prosecutor Nick Dry stated that Williams, an addict for two decades, injected himself and then Ms Archer with heroin in her house.
Despite knowing she hadn't used heroin for about a month, he still administered the drug, which ultimately led to her death.
It was reported that she was intoxicated and had taken other drugs and alcohol that night.
After arguing with her, Williams found her unresponsive and called an ambulance, but she was pronounced dead shortly after.
Toxicological tests revealed her blood contained more than three times the legal alcohol limit and tramadol, both capable of causing death.
Dr.
Mark Egan, a Home Office pathologist, concluded she died shortly after taking heroin and that the drug significantly contributed to her death.
Williams admitted to giving her heroin and had previous convictions for heroin supply, GBH, and robbery.
During sentencing, Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC emphasized the tragic nature of the case and stated that Williams caused her death by administering heroin recklessly, fully aware of the risks, especially considering her intoxication and drug use that evening.
Williams showed remorse and was supported by a Christian organization.
The judge highlighted that Williams did not attempt to conceal his actions and volunteered information when questioned.
He noted that Williams had a long history of substance abuse and led a difficult life.
The court recognized the remorse and remorseful attitude demonstrated by Williams, but nonetheless sentenced him to prison, stating that no sentence could compensate the family for the loss of Samantha Archer.
