BURNLEY MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR AXE MURDER OF EX-GIRLFRIEND
Andrew Burfield, a 51-year-old man from Todmorden Road, Burnley, was convicted of the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend Katie Kenyon.
He admitted to the killing on 22 April during his trial at Preston Crown Court.
The court heard that Ms Kenyon, who was hit 12 times in the head with an axe, tried to warn others about Burfield’s manipulative and controlling behavior.
Prosecutors described him as a "deceitful bully" who sought to isolate Katie to control her, ultimately leading to her tragic death.
Burfield was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 32 years.
The judge described him as a "dangerous monster," emphasizing his manipulative nature and the premeditated brutality of the attack.
Evidence against him included his own detailed lies about the circumstances, forensic analysis of the murder weapon and body, and his attempt to destroy evidence by burning her belongings.
Burfield’s actions and the court’s verdict highlight the heinousness of the crime and the dangerous profile of the offender.
