HUDD=ERSFIELD HAIRDRESSER SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS FOR BRUTAL ATTACK ON EX-FIANCÉE
A HUDDERSFIELD hairdresser, Andrew Banks, 42, was sentenced to eight years in prison after brutally attacking his ex-fiancée, Rebecca Richards, leaving her scarred for life.
The attack occurred on December 28 last year at their shared home in Wheatley, Halifax.
Banks, who initially lied to the police claiming Miss Richards had stabbed herself, admitted to striking her with knives, but claimed she was the first to take up the knives, alleging she wanted to frame him.
However, the judge rejected Banks’ claims, stating that he started the violence, which involved beating her, stamping on her face, and slashing her with several knives.
Miss Richards was left with multiple injuries, including scars, and required surgery to repair her bowel and tendons.
Despite her injuries and trauma, Banks was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause GBH and was ordered to serve eight years, with a requirement to pay £5,000 in compensation.
Judge Scott Wolstenholme described the attack as callous and brutal, motivated by jealousy after discovering she had contact with other men following their breakup.
