A total of 20 men have been sentenced to more than 200 years in jail after being convicted of historic child sexual abuse offences in Calderdale.
Among the convicted was Amir Shaban, a 48-year-old resident of Halifax, who was found guilty of rape and sentenced to a decade behind bars.
The investigation centered on abuse that took place from 2002 to 2006, involving a vulnerable girl aged 13 to 16 at the time.
What emerged was a chilling account of exploitation and assault.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Smith, leading the enquiry, expressed gratitude to the victims for their bravery and highlighted the police’s ongoing commitment to fight child sexual exploitation.
She mentioned that, "Legal restrictions meant these outcomes could not be announced earlier.
I am pleased with the sentences given to these offenders for the horrific abuse inflicted on these young girls, which was demonstrated to jurors through the trials over the past years." The police stressed that tackling child sexual abuse remains a central focus and urged victims and witnesses to come forward, noting that reporting abuse can be done at any time.
