AMANDA FULLER SHOCKS SCONE WITH CHILD ATTACK AND SOCIAL SERVICES SANCTION

Amanda Fuller, a former care worker based in Scone, has recently faced serious repercussions following her involvement in a disturbing incident involving a young child. Fuller was employed as a care assistant at the facility known as Catmoor House in Scone when she was accused of assaulting a primary school-aged child under her supervision.

The case was brought before Perth Sheriff Court, where Fuller was found guilty in March of the previous year. The court's verdict detailed that she had repeatedly kicked the young child in the face, an act that has shocked the local community and raised concerns about the safety and oversight within care facilities.

As part of her sentencing, Fuller was ordered to complete 90 hours of unpaid community service, a measure intended to serve as a form of restitution and reflection for her actions. Additionally, she was placed under supervision for a period of one year, ensuring that her conduct would be monitored to prevent any recurrence of such behavior.

Following her conviction, Fuller’s professional standing was further scrutinized during a fitness to practice hearing held in Dundee by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). The hearing concluded with the panel issuing a formal warning to Fuller’s registration, effectively impairing her ability to practice in social services for a period of one year. The SSSC’s spokeswoman confirmed that the panel deemed her fitness to practice to be impaired, citing concerns over her conduct and the public’s interest in maintaining high standards within the profession.

During the hearing, Fuller expressed remorse, apologizing directly to her young victim. She explained that she had been drinking at the time of the incident and claimed she could not remember the assault occurring. Fuller maintained that the incident was out of character, emphasizing that she had no prior disciplinary issues and had not been involved in any trouble since.

The SSSC’s spokeswoman elaborated on the panel’s considerations, stating, “The panel considered the conviction serious… and considered the public would be concerned by (Fuller’s) actions.” She further explained that while Fuller’s apology and acknowledgment of her alcohol consumption showed some insight, the timing of her apology—coming at a late stage—and her limited acceptance of responsibility, primarily centered around her memory loss rather than her actions, influenced the panel’s decision.

Importantly, the official warning issued by the SSSC does not prevent Fuller from practicing in social services, but it serves as a formal caution regarding her conduct. In response to the incident, a spokesperson for HC-One, the care home operator, expressed their dismay and reaffirmed their commitment to safety and high standards. The spokesperson stated, “The health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone we look after are our highest priorities, and we will always act in their best interest.”

He added that upon learning of the incident, the organization took immediate action by suspending Fuller and subsequently terminating her employment once police investigations concluded. The statement emphasized that Fuller’s actions are not representative of the care standards at Catmoor House or HC-One as a whole, and the organization remains dedicated to ensuring all staff uphold the integrity and quality of care expected by residents and their families.
