LIAM WOLLINGTON
The incident took place earlier this year after the couple, who had been together for approximately one year, moved in together.
What began as relationship difficulties quickly escalated into a violent outburst that left the woman traumatised and fearing for her life.
In her statement, the survivor recounted how tensions between the pair had been rising due to infidelity and abusive behaviour.
She explained that the situation came to a head when Wollington shut off the electricity in the room she was using, just before she was due to move out.
Moments later, the abuse turned physical.
“He started shouting at me and grabbed me by my hair,” she recalled.
“He dragged me into the spare room, shoved me to the floor with his body on top of mine, and said he would ‘show me how weak I am’.” The woman attempted to call the police, but Wollington snatched her phone away and continued the attack.
She was again dragged by the hair to another room, where the violence escalated further.
“He slapped me across the face so hard I went dizzy,” she continued.
“Then he pushed me onto the bed and began to choke me.
I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t speak.
He told me he was going to kill me.
Every time I tried to say something, he’d say, ‘Is that what you want your last words to be?’” She eventually managed to escape the room when Wollington briefly left to go to the kitchen.
She retrieved her phone and answered a call from her brother — a move that may have saved her life.
Wollington, meanwhile, had made a call to the police, falsely claiming the woman refused to leave his flat — while simultaneously preventing her from doing so.
When officers arrived at the scene, they detained Wollington, and the woman was able to gather her belongings and leave safely.
Despite the evidence and the clear severity of the attack, Wollington pled not guilty — until the day of the trial.
The change in plea only came after the Procurator Fiscal presented photographic evidence of the injuries to his defence solicitor.
He is now awaiting sentencing, scheduled for 9th July, following his late admission of guilt.
