PERTH MAN FACES JAIL FOR 'REPUGNANT' DOMESTIC SCISSOR ATTACK
David Murray squeezed his partner's neck, stopping her from breathing for several seconds, in a "repugnant" late-night assault at their home in Scone, as detailed in Perth Sheriff Court. The court described how he then smothered her with both hands, preventing her from exhaling through her nose or mouth, while she was on the phone to police, during which he continued his attack by punching her repeatedly in the face.
The incident was part of an argument that escalated after the couple, who had been in a long-term relationship, argued late into the night.
Murray responded to his partner's threat to call the police by physically assaulting her, dragging her to the floor, and aggressively pressing his hands around her neck.
When she threatened to call the police, he called them himself while still assaulting her, punching and kicking her as police arrived and separated them.
Murray pleaded guilty to assault causing injury and was told jail was inevitable, with the sheriff deferring sentence for further reports, but made clear that a custodial sentence was certain, stating that he would remain in custody in the meantime.
The sheriff emphasized the need for Murray to receive support to "break the cycle" of offending.
