YORK NURSE CONVICTED OF MURDER AND THEFT
A former nurse with a criminal history, including the murder of an elderly woman, has been sentenced again after stealing £17,000 from her employer in York.Alison Ramsay, who received a life sentence in 2001 for injecting Alice Grant, 84, with a lethal dose of sedative due to her own laziness in caring for her, was released on parole in November 2017.
She later assumed a managerial role at Shared Earth, a socially conscious gift shop in York that employs ex-convicts to aid their rehabilitation process.
In October 2022, the shop’s retail director flagged financial irregularities, such as reduced deposits and inconsistencies in bank records.
Investigations revealed Ramsay had altered spreadsheets and repeatedly stole amounts between £30 and £100.
Over four years, approximately £26,672 was unaccounted for, with Ramsay admitting to stealing £17,000 — a plea the prosecution accepted.
Now 59, Ramsay had a previous caution for deception-related theft.
She was sentenced to 20 months in prison for theft by employee and was on license at the time of her latest offenses, which led to her being recalled to prison in 2022.
Her defense team highlighted her remorse and the impact her crimes had on her life and employment.
Her prior conviction involved her murdering Alice Grant in 2001 at Aidan House residential home in Gateshead, where she administered a fatal overdose to the elderly woman.
Descriptions of Ramsay painted her as 'inherently lazy,' and she struggled to hold steady nursing positions, having worked in 27 roles over 16 years.
Her act of drugging Mrs.
Grant resulted in her death and was followed by Ramsay calling the victim's son, remarking, 'Your mother's not 'alf bad.'
