FALKIRK MAN JAILED FOR FIVE YEARS FOR RAPE AFTER FORCING WOMAN TO SIGN CONSENT
A MAN raped a 54-year-old woman then forced her to sign a piece of paper saying she had agreed to sex, a court was told.Alexander Inglis, 31, was jailed for five years at the High Court in Edinburgh after he admitted raping the woman at his home in Findhorn Place, Hallglen, Falkirk, on January 13 this year.
Lord Sutherland was told the woman had called at the house to collect money for a catalogue while Inglis' wife was out.
He gave her £3 but as she went to leave he switched the lights off and grabbed her by the throat.
She pleaded with him to take the money and not to hurt her but he raped her in a bedroom before making her sign the paper saying she had consented.
Mr Ian Duguid, defence counsel, told the court that his client really had no explanation for conduct which was completely out of character.
At work that day he had been given a cigarette from someone he later found was taking drugs and Inglis thought there might have been drugs in the cigarette.
He had also been drinking that afternoon.
The woman had been in the house when Inglis had been alone on a number of occasions before and he felt terrible about what he had done.
It was no surprise to Inglis when police came to arrest him.
Mr Duguid said a psychiatric report showed that Inglis suffered from deep-seated emotional problems.
The court handed him a five-year sentence for the rape.
