ALEXANDER BAILEY FROM CORBY FACES JUSTICE AFTER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY DISCOVERY
In August 2020, a disturbing case involving Alexander Bailey, a resident of Corby, came to light as authorities uncovered his involvement in possessing and viewing a significant amount of child abuse material. Bailey, aged 56, attempted a last-minute legal move to keep his identity concealed from the public and media. He appeared before Her Honour Judge Rebecca Crane at Northampton Crown Court, where his legal representative, Caroline Stewart, argued that Bailey was vulnerable and expressed deep concern about the repercussions of his name being publicly disclosed. However, the judge dismissed this request, emphasizing the importance of transparency and the principle of open justice. Judge Crane stated that Bailey's reasons did not constitute sufficient grounds to withhold his identity from the public record.
The case was initiated following a police raid on Bailey’s residence on York Road in Corby. The operation took place around 10 a.m. on November 26, 2016, after law enforcement officials acted on intelligence suggesting illegal activity. During the search, officers seized two laptops from Bailey’s home and discovered a horrifying collection of child abuse images stored on his devices.
Investigators found a total of 5,150 files, which included a disturbing mix of images and videos depicting children in various states of abuse. The files were categorized into different severity levels: 543 in Category A, indicating the most severe content; 643 in Category B; and 3,964 in Category C. Over 350 of these files were videos, further emphasizing the extent of the material Bailey had stored. Search terms recovered from his devices indicated that he had been actively seeking images of young boys, revealing a disturbing pattern of interest.
During police interviews, Bailey admitted to viewing these images and confessed that he had been doing so for several years. When questioned about his actions, he claimed that he did not derive sexual gratification from the images and was unsure why he kept them. He explained that he had been browsing a Russian website and was overwhelmed by the flood of images he encountered. Additionally, Bailey admitted to destroying a hard drive just weeks before his arrest, an act that suggested an attempt to conceal his activities.
Bailey later pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children and one charge related to extreme pornography at Northampton Magistrates’ Court. His guilty plea marked a significant step in the legal process, leading to sentencing proceedings.
At the sentencing hearing, Judge Rebecca Crane addressed Bailey directly, stating, “You have denied a sexual interest in children… it seems to me that you are not being honest with yourself.” The judge’s comments reflected the seriousness of the case and the concern over Bailey’s denial of culpability.
As a result, Bailey was sentenced to a three-year community order, which includes mandatory participation in rehabilitation programs. He is required to engage with the Horizon scheme, a specialized program designed for sex offenders, and is prohibited from working with children. Furthermore, Bailey will be registered as a sex offender for five years and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from potential harm.
