ALBERT DORSEY SENTENCED IN YORK FOR ABUSE CASE INVOLVING BOY IN THE 1970S
In a case that has spanned decades, Albert Dorsey, a 76-year-old man from South Duffield near Selby, was sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a young boy during the early 1970s in York. The disturbing incidents took place over a period of nearly five years, from February 1972 to January 1977, at a property located within the city of York.It was only in recent years that the victim, now an adult, came forward to report the abuse to the authorities. This revelation prompted a police investigation into the allegations against Dorsey, who was subsequently questioned and charged with eight counts of indecent assault. Despite his vehement denials, a jury at York Crown Court found him guilty on all counts in October.
Following the verdict, the case was scheduled for sentencing at Leeds Crown Court. However, Dorsey failed to appear at a previous hearing and subsequently went into hiding. On the morning of his sentencing, he was due to be brought before the court but was absent. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and law enforcement officers located him later that afternoon.
He was immediately taken into custody and transported back to court, where trial judge Rodney Jameson QC presided over the sentencing. Dorsey was handed a prison term of eight years and was also ordered to register as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The case highlights the importance of perseverance in seeking justice for victims of historical abuse, and the legal proceedings serve as a reminder of the long-lasting impact such crimes can have.
