ALASDAIR CRAIG'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN KILMARNOCK AND AYRSHIRE REVEALED

Alasdair Craig, a 21-year-old man from Kilmarnock, has been found guilty of a disturbing series of sexual offenses and violent assaults that spanned several years in Ayrshire. The court proceedings uncovered a troubling history of abuse, beginning when Craig was just 12 years old. Over an eight-year period, he engaged in heinous acts against three children, with the court hearing detailed accounts of his predatory behavior.

Craig was convicted on a total of 11 charges, which included serious crimes such as rape, causing a child to participate in sexual activity, and attempted rape. The severity of his offenses was compounded by an incident where he violently assaulted another child, repeatedly punching him in a brutal attack. These acts of violence and sexual abuse have left deep scars on the victims, whose bravery in coming forward was highlighted by prosecutors.

In addition to his crimes against minors, Craig's violent tendencies extended to an assault on an adult woman in 2022. During this attack, he placed her in a headlock, restricting her breathing, and threatened her with a pickaxe handle and a knife pressed against her neck. This assault demonstrated a pattern of violent and threatening behavior that further underscored his dangerous nature.

The case was brought before the High Court in Glasgow, where Craig was sentenced on August 20, 2024, to a lengthy prison term of 10 years. The court also ordered that he be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. Furthermore, non-harassment orders were issued, prohibiting Craig from contacting any of his victims for a period of 15 years, in an effort to protect them from further harm.

Katrina Parkes, Scotland’s Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offending, described Craig as a 'serial abuser' and praised the victims for their courage in speaking out. She emphasized that their testimonies were instrumental in securing his conviction. Prosecutors hope that this case will serve as a source of some relief for those affected by Craig’s actions and encourage others who have suffered abuse to come forward, regardless of how much time has passed since the offenses occurred.
