LONDON MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING WATFORD-BASED PARTNER AFTER YEARS OF ABUSE
A 29-year-old man named Aimen Mawia, who hails from London Road in London, has received a prison sentence following a hearing at St Albans Crown Court.Mawia admitted guilt to charges involving coercive and controlling behavior towards his partner in Watford, covering the period from July 1, 2022, to February 12, 2023.
He was sentenced to serve two and a half years behind bars for these offenses.
In addition, Mawia confessed to possessing cannabis, classified as a Class B drug, and for obstructing a police officer.
The overall sentence comprised 31 months for coercive control, one week for drug possession, and two months for police obstruction, with some of these sentences running concurrently.
A restraining order was also issued to safeguard the victim, which could lead to Mawia being imprisoned again if violated.
Detective Constable Conor Day highlighted that the victim was frightened of Mawia and worried about her safety, but she had the courage to come forward months later, allowing authorities to intervene and protect her.
The Hertfordshire Constabulary led the case, which was classified under domestic violence-related crime.
