MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING BEHAVIOUR AFTER WOMAN WAS THROWN ON BED 'LIKE A RAG DOLL'
A man grabbed his fiancée by her throat and chucked her on to a bed "like a rag doll" during a year-long ordeal of controlling behaviour.Jacks, 32, of Swallow Grove, Worksop, was found guilty of the controlling coercive behaviour and the assault at the lower court.
His actions included pouring moisturiser in her hair after she once went for a lie down, taking a framed photo of her child, screwing it up and throwing it on the floor, and grabbing her by the neck with both hands while she was on a bed.
He also locked the door so she was unable to get out.
Once, when she tried to climb out of a window, he pulled her back in by her feet.
He assaulted her by slapping her with an open palm across her face, causing her to burst into tears, and hitting her foot with a punch.
During court proceedings, it was revealed that Jacks's behaviour caused his fiancée to feel isolated, stressed, and panic-stricken, knocking her confidence.
The woman provided a statement that his behaviour made the home feel unsafe, and his actions were heard in court.
The judge sentenced Jacks to two-and-a-half years in prison for controlling coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship, with an additional five months concurrently for assault by beating.
Jacks was also given an indefinite restraining order not to contact his fiancée.
Mitigating, Mr.
Singh stated that Jacks was struggling with heavy drinking at the time, accepting he was drinking heavily every day.
The court's judge, James Sampson, described the behaviour as an abuse of power, stating: "This was an abuse of power.
You behaved like an inadequate bully.
In doing so, your purpose was to destroy the self-esteem of your partner so as to control her." The sentencing took place at Nottingham Crown Court.
The defendant's fiancée had also submitted a complaint on the day of their planned wedding, September 28, 2019.
"He suffers from anxiety and depression."
