He was sentenced to 3 years and 2 months and his license was endorsed with points.
———————————————————————— A man who impregnated a 12-year-old girl was sentenced to more than five years in prison following DNA analysis from an aborted fetus that confirmed paternity.
The girl, whose identity remains protected by law, initially described being forcibly taken into bushes in Halifax and raped.
However, an extensive police investigation revealed discrepancies in her account.
During questioning, police focused on 24-year-old Adnan Bakhit, a Sudanese asylum-seeker living on Byron Street, Halifax.
Bakhit claimed he believed the girl was 16 and maintained that he had not engaged in sexual relations with her.
Prosecutor Nick Adlington told Bradford Crown Court that after the girl terminated her pregnancy, medical officers collected fetal tissue for testing, which confirmed Bakhit's paternity.
With no previous criminal history, Bakhit chose to remain silent during further questioning but pleaded guilty last October to two charges of raping a girl under 13.
Defense attorney Yunus Valli presented the case that the girl had told Bakhit she was 16, and other circumstances supported the argument that Bakhit believed she was legally old enough.
He noted that Bakhit did not actively seek out the girl.
Nevertheless, Judge David Hatton QC sentenced Bakhit to five years and four months, emphasizing that the girl told him she was 12 and he did not verify her age before having sex.
Following his release, Bakhit will be bound by a sexual harm prevention order and required to register as a sex offender for life.
After sentencing, Detective Sergeant John Moore of Calderdale CID praised the girl’s courage in reporting the crime, adding that the sentence provides some resolution for her.
He also urged anyone who has been a victim of sexual offences to come forward, emphasizing that they will be treated with care and that authorities will pursue justice diligently.
