MAN STRANGLED EX-PARTNER AND HIT CHILDREN
A man has been sentenced to prison for a series of disturbing acts, including strangling his former partner and punch and hit two children. On August 25, at his ex-partner's residence in Fenstanton, Adam Hodgkins engaged in an argument after they ended their relationship.
During the confrontation, he headbutted her and inflicted a chokehold that restricted her breathing.
The victim managed to grab her phone and threw it to a child present, hoping to alert others.
Hodgkins then physically assaulted the child by punching him, before resuming his attack on the woman by strangling her again.
She managed to escape the scene and ran outside.
Meanwhile, Hodgkins caused property damage by punching a hole in a door and damaging other items belonging to the victim.
As she sought refuge at a neighbouring property, Hodgkins pursued her.
Another woman intervened, but Hodgkins responded by punching and kicking her multiple times.
He further assaulted a man attempting to help, and later struck a child in the back of the head.
Hodgkins, residing on Throne Road in Rowley Regis, West Midlands, admitted charges of intentional strangulation, assault causing actual bodily harm, four counts of assault by beating, and three counts of criminal damage.
He was sentenced on November 25 at Cambridge Crown Court to two years and four months in prison.
His Honour Judge Grey commended the woman who intervened, acknowledging that her bravery likely prevented a much more severe outcome.
DC Edward McAuley commented: "Hodgkins clearly didn’t care who he attacked as he assaulted women and children who got in his way.
"His behaviour was sickening, and I’m pleased he has now appeared in court.
"Tackling domestic abuse is one of our priorities and I’d encourage anyone in an abusive relationship to seek help."
