ADAM HEWSON FROM GRIMSBY SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT INVOLVING GIRL UNDER 13

A 19-year-old man named Adam Hewson, who worked at a hotel in Cromwell Road, Grimsby, has been handed down a prison sentence of three years and four months after admitting to multiple serious offenses involving a young girl under the age of 13. The case, which was heard at Grimsby Crown Court, revealed the disturbing details of Hewson’s crimes, which spanned several incidents primarily occurring in 2019.

According to the prosecution, led by Charlotte Baines, Hewson was arrested in August 2022 following a report from the victim’s family to Humberside Police. The family’s decision to come forward was prompted by a conversation about the alarming prevalence of sexual abuse among women, which led the victim to disclose her traumatic experiences. She revealed that Hewson had subjected her to sexual assault and rape when she was still a child, with some of the abuse involving the use of a spinning wheel application on his phone. The victim also described how Hewson had ordered her to strip or twerk during these encounters, actions that caused her significant emotional and psychological harm.

Since these assaults, the girl has been diagnosed with an eating disorder and continues to suffer from trauma related to Hewson’s actions. The court heard that Hewson’s defense argued he was emotionally immature at the time of the offenses, and that he had shown remorse for his actions. They also highlighted his talents in e-sports, noting that he was well-regarded and diligent in his work. Despite these arguments, Judge Taryn Turner emphasized the gravity of the crimes, stating that the offenses had a 'profound, devastating and traumatic effect' on the victim.

In her sentencing, Judge Turner ordered Hewson to serve over three years in prison. Additionally, she imposed an indefinite Restraining Order to prevent him from contacting the victim or approaching her in any way. Hewson will also be required to register as a sex offender indefinitely, which entails providing police with his current address and any travel plans to ensure ongoing monitoring and protection for the victim and the community.
