CAMBRIDGE TAXI DRIVER HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT
A Cambridge taxi driver who was convicted of sexually assaulting two female passengers was given a suspended jail sentence this year.Abu Bakar, 25, of Cam Causeway, was found guilty in December of two counts of sexual assault and was handed a suspended jail sentence on January 10.
The offences happened on May 6 2018 in Cambridge and involved sexually touching a woman without her consent.
Both victims, who were drunk and vulnerable at the time, reported the assaults to police and social services.
Prosecutor Giles Beaumont stated one victim said: "I feel empowered to make an appeal against the taxi driver so that this doesn't happen again.
I feel I will have to alter my habits so that I don’t take more taxis.
He needs to know what he has done wrong and pay for his actions.” He also asked the magistrates to consider compensation for the victims.
