MAN WITH RAPE CONVICTION PLACED ON LIFELONG SEX OFFENDERS’ REGISTER

A Fenland man with a conviction for rape in Sweden has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register in the UK for the rest of his life.

And after Zydrunas Antanaitis told magistrates he was unwilling to carry out unpaid work in the community for a drink driving offence, he was jailed for four months.

Antanaitis, 38, of Cannon Street, Wisbech, was convicted of the sex crime back in 2005, Fenland magistrates were told.

Representing the police, solicitor Andrew Logan said Antanaitis had served a three year prison sentence for the offence.

Applying for Antanaitis to be put on the sex offender’s register, Mr Logan said: “We have the registration of the conviction from the Lithuanian government.” Antanaitis had admitted breaching the 180-hour unpaid work order he was given for drink driving last December.

“The breach was deliberate, he went to Scotland to look for work,” explained solicitor John Clarke.

“He has no intention of doing the community work; he refuses, and wants to go to prison.”
