ZACHARY RANKIN JAILED FOR RAPE AFTER PREVIOUS CONVICTIONS
A serial sex offender who subjected a woman to rape after he was released from prison on licence was jailed for 10 years and seven months today.
Rankin subjected his distressed victim to forced, unprotected intercourse at her home in Glasgow in June 2022 after telling her: "We are having f-----g sex." Despite her crying and being in pain, he continued with the sex attack.
Rankin, who was previously jailed in 2015 for the rape and abuse of three other female victims, attacked her again after revealing his past convictions.
The court heard he threatened, inflicted violence, monitored her social media, and displayed abusive behaviour throughout their encounters between May and August 2022.
A judge at Edinburgh High Court described the offences as very serious, with aggravating features.
Lord Young ordered that Rankin serve an additional seven years on licence in the community, with the possibility of recall to prison if conditions are breached.
He was placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely and a non-harassment order was made banning contact with the victim.
