GLASGOW MAN JAILED FOR LIFE IN TRAGIC PARTNER MURDER
A 33-year-old man named William Taylor was convicted of murder in connection with the death of his partner, Catrina Rae, described as a warm and cheerful individual. The crime took place in July last year at Taylor’s flat in Barmulloch, Glasgow, where he was accused of strangling Rae.
Court reports indicated he had been remanded after being charged with threatening Rae with a knife over a dispute involving the television.
Nevertheless, the Crown did not oppose his release on bail, and Taylor later reconnected with Rae following a prior conviction for assault with a knife in 2007.
On the night of the incident, a dispute over a key escalated, leading Taylor to attack Rae with a tool called 'snips,' causing significant injuries to her hand.
During the trial, Taylor claimed he had left Rae in the corridor and heard her making gurgling sounds, asserting she had been holding something at her neck before turning blue and swelling.
He stated he sought help for her afterward, denying allegations that Rae was in 'utter terror' of him, although evidence showed controlling behavior.
The jury found him guilty of murder, noting that he had applied pressure to Rae’s neck during the attack.
Taylor was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 17 years.
The court called the case 'tragic' and praised Rae as a well-liked woman who had taken care of Taylor, who was unemployed and reported health problems.
The judge highlighted that her killing could never be justified, describing the incident as a 'sad case.'
