WILLIAM RAMSAY JAILED FOR ASSAULT AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Her attacker, William Ramsay, climbed on top of her, grabbed her neck and pushed his other hand over her mouth. She felt his hand tighten and could barely breathe, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
Ramsay was jailed on July 10 for common assault on June 1, assault, causing bodily harm four days later, and damaging a bedroom door.
He received a total of 14 months in prison, concurrent to a wounding with intent sentence he is currently serving after he was recalled on licence when he attacked the woman twice.
In June 2014 he was sentenced to six years in prison for wounding with intent which he has now been recalled on.
That recall period ends in June next year.
Gregor Purcell, mitigating, stressed Ramsay had pleaded guilty.
In custody, Ramsay has engaged with mental health services and is having one-to-one sessions with a psychiatric nurse.
"He has a personality problem which has not been diagnosed," said Mr Purcell.
"He has engaged with an alcohol awareness course in prison." Detective Inspector Kylie Westlake, of Nottinghamshire Police, said afterwards: "We are pleased with today's result and we hope that it gives the victim some comfort that Ramsay is locked up.
"We'd like to praise the victim who has shown incredible courage throughout.
"We'd also like to thank and praise the boy who did the right thing and call the police to report the crime.
We are in no doubt that those actions saved her life.
The incidents were particularly unpleasant and violent.
It was a very volatile relationship, where Ramsay was very controlling.
We would urge anyone who suffers from any kind of domestic abuse to report this to police.
