ALLAN HUGGARD'S CRIMINAL REIGN IN BASFORD AND SNEINTON ENDS WITH JAIL SENTENCE
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Basford and Sneinton, Allan Huggard, a pensioner with a disturbing history of sexual offenses, has been sentenced to prison for his ongoing criminal behavior. The 70-year-old offender, whose criminal activities date back to 1955, has accumulated an alarming total of 24 sex-related charges, including rape, indecent assault, gross indecency, and possession of indecent images. His long-standing criminal record is considered one of the worst in its kind, reflecting decades of offending that have left a trail of victims and community concern.Huggard’s latest breach of the law occurred when he was seen walking past Bulwell Bogs, a location where he was explicitly banned from going due to previous offenses. This violation prompted immediate legal action, leading to his return before the courts. His past residences include Southchurch Court in Clifton and Bentinck Court in Sneinton, areas where he has previously resided and possibly targeted victims.
During the sentencing, Judge Dudley Bennett emphasized the ongoing danger Huggard poses to young people. He stated, “You remain a real and serious risk to young children. You lurk at parks to pick up your young victims, where you hope you can groom them and sexually abuse them.” The judge’s words underscore the severity of Huggard’s predatory behavior and the community’s need for protection.
Huggard was residing at a hostel in Basford when staff members there grew suspicious of his conduct. Their concerns led to police being informed, which initiated a series of investigations and enforcement actions. Detective Constable Andy Taylor of Nottinghamshire Police explained, “Since Huggard arrived in Nottinghamshire in 2001, we, together with our partners, have been managing his licence conditions and robustly policing any breaches of his sexual offences prevention order.”
He added, “As a result, he has not been able to create a lifestyle for himself, which is built around communicating with other, like-minded offenders, nor going to areas where he can come into contact with children. This latest breach means he will again be locked away for many years.”
In a move to protect the public, police officials refused to release a photograph of Huggard, citing security concerns. A police spokesman stated, “This man is serving a significant prison sentence and is one of a handful of people in Nottinghamshire being managed at the highest level. Releasing his photograph may jeopardize the effectiveness of this agreement and is therefore not in the interests of the public.”
Huggard’s case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement and community leaders in safeguarding vulnerable populations from repeat offenders with long histories of sexual misconduct.
