DOCTOR FACES TRIBUNAL AFTER COVERTLY FILMING GIRLS IN FIFE STARBUCKS
A doctor is facing a tribunal after he covertly filmed girls in a Fife Starbucks.William Gunn, 65, was convicted of covertly watching and staring at the children in the coffee shop at Fife Central Retail Park in Kirkcaldy in January 2024.
He also acted in a disorderly manner, covertly took photos and videos of the children, attempted to take videos of their bodies, and committed a breach of the peace.
Gunn was fined £700 after being convicted at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in June last year.
The doctor could now face being struck off the General Medical Council (GMC) register at a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) hearing.
It is not known where Gunn, whose registration as a doctor is currently suspended, was employed at the time of his offence.
According to the GMC, the doctor graduated from Aberdeen University in 1986.
The tribunal will consider Gunn’s conviction and whether this impairs his ability to work in the sector.
The case against Gunn says: “The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that, on June 25 2024, Dr Gunn was convicted of committing a breach of the peace in that, on January 31 2024 in a coffee shop, Dr Gunn conducted himself in a disorderly manner by covertly and inappropriately photographing and taking videos.
It is further alleged that, on July 23 2024 at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Dr Gunn was fined £700.” There are a number of sanctions available to the tribunal panel after deciding if the allegation is proven.
This includes placing conditions on his registration, suspending his registration, or, the most serious outcome, erasing the doctor’s name from the register.
In September, a former Ninewells Hospital breast surgeon was struck off after an MPTS hearing.
The tribunal found allegations that Dr Douglas Brown sent inappropriate messages – including sexually explicit pictures – to what he thought was a 12-year-old boy to be proved.
