WILLIAM CROSS FROM EAST KILBRIDE SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR CHILD ABUSE IN LOCAL YOUTH CLUBS

In a case that has shocked the community of East Kilbride, William Cross, a 67-year-old man with deep ties to local youth organizations, has been sentenced to five years in prison for the abuse of nine young boys over a period spanning from 1980 to 1995.

Cross, who held trusted positions within several youth groups across East Kilbride—including local football teams and the Boys Brigade—used his influence and access to exploit vulnerable children.

His victims ranged in age from as young as seven to as old as 15, all of whom he met through the various youth clubs and activities he was involved with.

Initially, William Cross denied the allegations brought against him.

However, after two days of intense courtroom proceedings at Hamilton Sheriff Court, he changed his plea to guilty on May 16.

The evidence presented during the trial painted a disturbing picture of abuse carried out over many years, highlighting the extent of Cross’s betrayal of trust.

Following the sentencing, Fraser Gibson, the Procurator Fiscal for South Strathclyde, issued a statement condemning Cross’s actions.

He emphasized the profound impact on the victims, stating, “William Cross’s victims were robbed of their innocence by a man in a position of trust.” Gibson also urged other victims of similar crimes to come forward, reassuring them that they would be treated with professionalism and sensitivity throughout the investigation and prosecution process.

As part of his punishment, William Cross was sentenced to serve five years in prison.

Additionally, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from potential future harm.
