LANARKSHIRE THUG JAILED FOR ATTACK ON GIRLFRIEND AFTER 10 DAYS
A Lanarkshire thug who attacked his new girlfriend just 10 days into their relationship and left her face covered in bites has been locked up for 22 months.Gary Alexander, 35, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court over the incident at the victim's East Kilbride flat.
He also admitted assaulting the woman at a property on the isle of Mull, while on bail for a separate matter, reports Lanarkshire Live.
Rosemary O'Neill, prosecuting, said the couple had been drinking from the evening into the early hours, when Alexander then became aggressive.
She told the court: "He pushed the woman on to a bed and began to bite her face and hands.
He also punched her to the head and body.
Fearing for her life, she tried to leave the flat and got to the front door, but Alexander went after her and dragged her back by the hair, biting her again.
A few minutes later the police arrived, having been alerted by a neighbour who had seen the distressed woman banging on a living room window and heard her shouting and screaming." Defence lawyer Alison Miller said the couple met while Alexander was staying in homeless accommodation.
Ms Miller told the court: "She asked him to stay with her and they had been together in her flat for 10 days at the time of this incident.
It happened after he fell asleep and she played a prank to wake him up.
He wasn't happy about that.
He accepts committing the assault, but he himself suffered a head injury when the woman threw a bottle that hit him on the head.
He also had a bite mark." Jailing Alexander, Sheriff Michael Higgins said: "This was no doubt a very frightening experience for the woman.
The 22-month sentence was backdated as Alexander has been in custody since his arrest.
The sheriff also imposed a non-harassment order, banning him from any contact with the woman for five years.**
