ABERGAVENNY MAN JAILED FOR CHILD RAPE AND ABUSING GIRL WITH HYPNOSIS
A paedophile "hypnotised" a little girl before raping her.William Chiplin, a 21-year-old from Abergavenny, attacked the child on multiple occasions, including one in which he abused her while she clung to a unicorn toy, Newport Crown Court heard.
Judge Celia Hughes stated that Chiplin — who was aged between 15 and 17 at the time of his attacks — exploited the girl "on a series of occasions".
He showed her pornography to "normalise" sexual behaviour and then forced her to strip naked before raping her.
The court was informed that the abuse came to light when the girl became "visibly distressed" while watching TV.
After being pressed on what was wrong she confided in her mother, describing how Chiplin had "hypnotised" her, made her watch sexual videos, and rubbed against her while she held a unicorn toy.
Furthermore, Chiplin was caught with two Category A indecent images — the most serious type — downloaded onto his phone, showing girls around 10 being penetrated.
In her victim personal statement, the girl shared her emotional distress, saying she sometimes lay in bed and cried when she remembered the abuse.
Her mother added that the abuse stole her daughter's innocence, sense of safety, trust, and stability, leaving her with severe anxiety that affects her relationships, sleep, education, and self-view.
The girl also questions who she can trust and why this happened.
Chiplin was found guilty at trial of raping a child under 13, sexually assaulting a child under 13 by penetration, and possession of indecent images.
The barrister highlighted that he had no previous convictions and was supported by character references.
The judge emphasized that Chiplin had taken no responsibility, lying that the girl was manipulated and that he downloaded images "by mistake".
She noted that Chiplin had failed basic education and had little work experience, being in receipt of universal credit.
The sentence imposed was six years and three months in prison, with two-thirds served before release on licence.
He must register as a sex offender for life and is subject to a restraining order to protect the victim.
