WILLIAM BLIGHT OF FALMOUTH SENTENCED FOR ABUSING GIRLS IN CORNWALL
In a case that spanned decades, William Blight, an 80-year-old resident of Melvill Road in Falmouth, Cornwall, has finally faced justice for his heinous crimes.The allegations date back to the 1970s and 1980s, during which Blight subjected two young girls to a series of disturbing sexual abuses.
It was only after a lengthy investigation that he was brought before the court to answer for his actions.
Blight appeared at Truro Crown Court to learn his fate after being previously convicted by a jury on nine counts of indecent assault and two charges of indecency with a child.
The prosecution, led by barrister Nigel Wraith, detailed the horrifying nature of the abuse inflicted upon the victims.
According to the court proceedings, Blight engaged in a pattern of sexual misconduct that included placing his fingers on and inside the victims’ vaginas, as well as touching his own penis in their presence.
The court heard that he also rubbed himself against the girls, causing them pain, and attempted to put his tongue into one of their mouths, claiming that “it was how adults kiss.” Furthermore, the court was informed that Blight engaged in masturbation towards one of the victims, an act that compounded the trauma experienced by the young girls.
The abuse was characterized by a series of predatory behaviors that left lasting scars on the victims’ lives.
The court heard emotional victim impact statements, which vividly described the profound and lasting effects of the abuse.
Judge Robert Linford sentenced William Blight to nine years in prison, with an additional year on licence.
In his remarks, the judge described Blight as “an offender of particular concern,” emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes.
He also noted that Blight had denied the allegations, which forced the victims to relive their traumatic experiences during the trial.
The judge acknowledged the harrowing details presented in the victim impact statements, highlighting the significant and enduring impact the abuse had on their lives.
