WAYNE BUTTERWORTH SENTENCED IN RHYL FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN

In a case that has shocked the community of Rhyl, Wayne Butterworth, a 35-year-old man, was sentenced to ten years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against three young girls. The crimes, which spanned over a period of seven years, involved disturbing acts of abuse that have left a lasting impact on the victims and their families.

Butterworth’s criminal activities came to light during a court hearing at Mold Crown Court, where he was found guilty of 18 separate charges related to sexual assault. The victims included two girls aged just 8 years old and a third girl aged 13. The severity of his actions prompted the court to impose a sexual offences prevention order, aimed at preventing any future offenses and restricting Butterworth’s contact with minors.

During the proceedings, North Wales Police described Butterworth as “a callous offender,” emphasizing the lack of remorse shown by the defendant. The family members of one of the young victims expressed their relief at the verdict, stating, “Justice has been done. It’s such a relief he won’t be allowed anywhere near children ever again. He’s got his just deserts.”

Butterworth’s defense highlighted his struggles with alcohol and his claims of amnesia regarding the abuse, asserting that he could not remember the sexual touching of his victims. Despite this, he admitted to the charges, which included a series of sexual assaults involving touching and indecent acts. The court heard that Butterworth would sometimes invent games involving tickling, during which he would touch the victims sexually, often over their clothes but occasionally underneath.

In his testimony, Butterworth told police officers upon their arrival, “I have been expecting you,” indicating a level of awareness about his criminal activities. His legal team argued that his guilty plea spared the victims the trauma of testifying in court, and the pre-sentence report suggested that he did not fully accept responsibility but did show some remorse.

Following his release after serving four years and ten months of his sentence, Butterworth is now residing at the Plas y Wern bail hostel in Plas Madoc, Wrexham area. It is also known that he maintains connections in Colwyn Bay. The authorities have made it clear that Butterworth’s past actions have marked him as a dangerous individual, and he is now under strict supervision to prevent any further harm.

DC Sarah Preston, the investigating officer, commented on Butterworth’s character, stating, “Wayne Butterworth is a callous offender who did not care about his victims.” The community and the victims’ families continue to seek reassurance that justice has been served and that Butterworth remains under close watch to ensure the safety of children in the region.
