ASYLUM SEEKER JAILED FOR RAPING 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN BIRMINGHAM
An asylum seeker named Wahid Mohammed, aged 22, from Syria, was convicted for his role in a severe sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl. The incident occurred in Birmingham, where he was working illegally at a shop on Lord Street in Walsall.
The court's findings detailed that Mohammed lured the girl into a bedroom within the shop premises, where he engaged in an hour-long series of rapes.
The girl, who was vulnerable and had left her home alone, initially pretended to be older but revealed her true age of 12 when he attempted to kiss her.
During the attack, Mohammed exploited her youth, locking the room to carry out the assault.
The girl was later found by concerned members of an Asian family, who noticed her with him at a takeaway and, worried for her safety, took action.
Mohammed was arrested two days after the incident and admitted some sexual activity but claimed it was consensual, despite knowing she was underage.
Ultimately, he was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault of a girl under 13 and three counts of rape, resulting in a sentence of 12 years imprisonment and an extended five-year license as a dangerous offender.
The judge highlighted that she was effectively away from home and exploited because of her vulnerability, and noted that the decision regarding deportation would be made later.
Mohammed’s legal team stated he had a difficult life and was seeking asylum, with his girlfriend standing by him.
This case underscores the seriousness of the assault and the exploitation of a young girl by a man who took advantage of her situation.
