DOCTOR SUSPENDED AFTER ADMITTING TO SEXUAL MISCONDUCT AT NOTTINGHAMSHIRE HOSPITAL
A doctor, Dr Vikram Aarella, has been suspended after admitting to inappropriate behaviour towards colleagues, including putting his hands around and kissing one doctor's neck at a Nottinghamshire hospital. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal determined he would be unable to practice for 10 months after it was found he committed sexual misconduct between 2013 and 2015.
Dr Aarella was made the subject of a five-year restraining order on September 25, 2020, in relation to Dr C, a female doctor at King's Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield, who accused him of squeezing her stomach, hips, and thighs, sometimes in front of patients.
He also put his hands around her neck and kissed it, repeatedly asking for more despite her refusal.
He apologized for his behaviour during the tribunal, which took place in Manchester between September 26 and 28, and expressed genuine remorse.
The court concluded his fitness to practice was impaired due to sexual misconduct, and his suspension was meant to send a clear message that such behaviour is unacceptable.
Dr David Selwyn, Medical Director at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, emphasized that abuse, harassment, or inappropriate behaviour have no place in hospitals and that investigations would be carried out thoroughly.
Dr Aarella has not worked at Sherwood Forest since 2015.
