BROTHERS WHO KIDNAPPED AND RAPED WOMAN JAILED
Two brothers responsible for raping a woman during a Christmas gathering have been sentenced to prison.Marius Todoran, aged 40, and Vasile Todoran, aged 43, both residents of Girton Avenue in Brent, were found guilty after a detailed investigation by Metropolitan Police officers.
They received a combined prison term of 18 years at Kingston Crown Court.
The incident occurred in December 2023 after the female victim in her 40s left a Christmas celebration in Queensbury, located in north-west London.
She was approached by Vasile Todoran, who attempted to contact her.
Despite her efforts to escape, she was forcibly taken to the brothers' rented residence, where she was subjected to sexual assault.
On April 8 at Kingston Crown Court, Marius Todoran was sentenced to eight years for rape.
His brother Vasile was given a 10-year sentence for rape, kidnapping, and kidnapping with intent to commit a sexual offence.
Both men will also be registered as sex offenders for life.
Detective Sergeant Josh Dwyer, who headed the investigation, praised the victim's bravery.
He stated, "First and foremost, I want to commend the bravery of the victim-survivor.
"She has shown remarkable strength and courage in speaking to police and throughout the investigation and trial.
"Her testimony was instrumental in ensuring justice was achieved.
"The impact of this case cannot be undone by today’s sentencing, but we hope that it provides a small amount of closure." Initially, the case was dismissed in November 2024 when a judge ruled there was insufficient evidence.
This decision was later appealed by the police and prosecutors, who challenged the ruling in the Court of Appeal.
The appeal succeeded, leading to a retrial and eventually, the conviction of the brothers.
The police built their case through an extensive review of CCTV footage, phone records, witness accounts, and forensic evidence.
After sentencing, the victim expressed her gratitude to the police for their support.
