TREVOR MULCAHY SENTENCED IN NORWICH FOR INDECENCY OFFENSE INVOLVING NINE-YEAR-OLD BOY

In November 2002, a man with a distinguished 24-year career in the Royal Navy, Trevor Mulcahy, was convicted and subsequently sentenced for a serious indecency offense involving a young boy.

The incident took place in Norwich, where Mulcahy, aged 51 and residing at Catton View Court, was found guilty of indecently assaulting a nine-year-old boy during a period when he was babysitting the child.

Following a trial at Norwich Crown Court earlier that year, the jury returned a guilty verdict against Mulcahy, who has consistently denied the charges.

The prosecution, led by John Farmer, detailed that the assault occurred while Mulcahy was under the influence of alcohol, which they argued exacerbated the severity of the offense.

During the sentencing hearing, Mulcahy’s defense attorney, Kevin Clarke, emphasized that his client had no prior history of such behavior and highlighted the recent personal tragedies that had befallen him, including the deaths of his son and mother.

Clarke suggested that these bereavements might have contributed to Mulcahy’s state of mind at the time of the incident.

Despite these mitigating circumstances, Judge Simon Barham made it clear that the gravity of the offense warranted a custodial sentence.

Consequently, Mulcahy was sentenced to 12 months in prison.

Additionally, the judge ordered that Mulcahy be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the next ten years, reflecting the serious nature of the crime and the need for ongoing monitoring and public safety measures.
