MANCHESTER MAN CONVICTED OF MURDERING EX-PARTNER IN FLINTSHIRE
DECEASED.A man named Trevor Ferguson, aged 49 from Manchester, was convicted of murdering his former partner Karen McGraw at her home in Connah's Quay, Flintshire.
Ferguson had admitted to killing her but denied it was murder.
The court sentenced him to serve a minimum of 17 years of a life sentence before being considered for parole.
The judge, John Rogers, commended the local police, council, and agencies supporting abused women for their quick response.
Outside the court, Karen McGraw's daughter Kimberley read a heartfelt statement expressing the devastation caused by her mother's death, describing it as brutal and tragic.
The police are currently under investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission following her repeated calls for help.
The judge highlighted that Ferguson showed no mercy, stabbing McGraw three times after their relationship, which was initially loving, deteriorated due to arguments and violence.
Ferguson's actions were considered premeditated and planned, with the victim being vulnerable.
The jury took roughly three and three-quarter hours to find Ferguson guilty of murder, rejecting his claims of provocation.
Ferguson's previous assaults and a conditional discharge further indicated the escalation leading to the murder.
The court acknowledged that no sentence could truly compensate for Karen McGraw's loss, emphasizing her role as a mother and community member, and noting the tragedy as an act of revenge after she refused to take him back.
