PERTH CARE WORKER STRUCK OFF FOR STEALING NEARLY £10K FROM RESIDENT
A home carer named Tracey McIntyre was found to have taken a resident’s bank card without permission on Christmas Eve and used it to withdraw nearly £10,000 over several months, specifically from December 2019 to February 2020.This action was discovered during an investigation by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
The total amount misappropriated was £9,582.21.
McIntyre’s abuse of trust and exploitation of her position represented a significant breach of the duty she held as a care worker, leading to substantial financial loss for the resident.
The SSSC’s report stated that she exploited her access to the resident's home and used their bank card on multiple occasions without consent, which is considered a serious and sustained dishonesty pattern.
She did not show remorse or insight into her actions.
The watchdog emphasized that her behavior was motivated by personal financial gain, and if such conduct is repeated, it could lead to other vulnerable people suffering similar financial and emotional harm.
Police Scotland confirmed that McIntyre, aged 43 at the time, was charged with theft, and a report was sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
However, there are no ongoing legal proceedings against her as of now.
