PERTH MAN CAUGHT WITH RAZOR BLADES AFTER DOMESTIC ASSAULT SENTENCES
A prisoner in Perth, who was caught with razor blades just two days into serving his sentence for domestic assault, has avoided serving additional time behind bars.William McFarlane was imprisoned for two separate assaults on his partner.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that in one attack, he kicked the woman’s head "like a football." Due to concerns that he posed a “danger to women,” McFarlane, originally from Inverness, was sentenced to 40 months for the first assault, followed by a 37-month term for the second.
Less than two days after receiving his sentences—specifically on November 14, 2024—McFarlane was subjected to a security search at HMP Perth.
During the search, guards discovered a razor blade in his mouth and another inside his shoe.
A prison officer sustained a cut to his finger while inspecting the footwear.
Defense solicitor David Holmes explained that McFarlane had been released from prison in February and is currently employed as an excavator operator at a peat bog.
Sheriff Paul Brown told McFarlane that alternatives to re-imprisonment were available, and he ordered him to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work and placed him under supervision for 18 months.
