Tony Vita, 47 years old, received a life sentence for the murder of his wife Marion at their residence in Baillieston, Glasgow, following the discovery of her involvement with another woman.
The killing took place in September, when Vita stabbed Marion multiple times amidst a deteriorating marriage and her extramarital relationship.
During the trial, Vita claimed that Marion’s death was the result of a strange accident, suggesting she fell onto the knife during a struggle, but the jury rejected this explanation.
Evidence such as a calendar entry reading "Marion cheating lesbian whore" and evidence of Vita removing his wife from family photographs and destroying a mug inscribed with “home is where the heart is” were presented.
Witnesses also heard from Ms Rumniak, Marion’s lover, who stated she had fallen in love with Mrs Vita and planned to live together and adopt a child.
The court also learned that Vita was angry after returning from Edinburgh, where Marion had confessed to the affair via text message, and that he had tried to take his own life after discovering her infidelity.
The judge described the case as “incredibly sad” and “truly exceptional” due to the unusual circumstances, and Vita was ordered to serve at least 12 years before becoming eligible for parole.
